Long Eaton Freemasons Bring Christmas Cheer

Members of Harrington Lodge No. 5098 have been extremely busy, during the current pandemic.

December saw Harrington Lodge launch their ‘Meal for a Meal’ an initiative suggested by member WBro Dale Bywater to donate to the Long Eaton and Sawley Food Bank. Lodge Secretary, Philip Meynell, explains: “Our Christmas meeting is traditionally followed by a five course Christmas dinner, complete with band and Christmas carols. Obviously, we cannot do that this year, so we decided to turn the negative into a positive. As many people have been hit hard by the economic chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve asked our members to donate the money they’d usually pay for their Christmas meal to enable us to provide, instead, Christmas meals for people in need. Thus ‘a Meal for a Meal.’ It’s a crucial part of who we are and what we do that we support our communities and seek to bring relief to those in distress wherever we can.”

With donations from members and guests of Harrington Lodge, a donation of £500 from LEMBA (Long Eaton Masonic Benevolent Association) and £500 from the Provincial Charity of Derbyshire Cheques over £2000 have been presented to the Long Eaton and Sawley Food Bank by Harrington Lodge.
